April marks a decade of service for the Care1st Avondale Resource Center.

Ten years ago, Avondale had a limited human services system. If left this way, it could not support its residents. Care1st Health Plan Arizona (Care1st) knew there was a need for these types of services in this underserved area. With this in mind, we sought to find a way to help not only our members, but the community as a whole.

Healthy Smiles Start With Early Education

Attitudes and habits established at an early age are critical in maintaining good health throughout life. This is true for many things, like introducing healthy foods, fun exercise and good dental hygiene habits.

According to the American Dental Association, children’s teeth are at risk for decay as soon as they appear, usually when the child is six months old. However, they are also very important for the baby’s development and health-impacting the way to jaw grows, how a baby forms words and eats. Early Childhood Education Supports Healthy Development and Academic Success

February is Early Childhood Education Awareness Month, an ideal time to reflect on what’s best for our children and how to kick-start healthy development from a young age. The early child period − between birth to five years old − is the most important developmental phase, as it impacts long-term social, cognitive, emotional and physical development in children.
