Social determinants of health (SDOH) – the conditions in which we live, learn, work and play – can explain, in large part, why some Americans are healthier than others.

That’s why at WellCare, we go beyond healthcare, helping our members manage the many challenges of daily life.

Through our Community Connections program, we help connect our members and non- members, to needed resources – from food and housing to transportation and child care – all in an effort to eliminate barriers to care and pave a path toward better health and independence. WellCare Celebrates 50 Years of Pride

This month, the nation celebrates Pride Month, but this year is particularly special as we recognize the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. This dark period in our history became the catalyst for the modern movement for LGBTQ+ equality in the United States and around the world, and WellCare associates are proud to join in and show their true colors of diversity and inclusion.

The Care1st Avondale Resource Center Celebrates a Decade of Service in Arizona

April marks a decade of service for the Care1st Avondale Resource Center.

Ten years ago, Avondale had a limited human services system. If left this way, it could not support its residents. Care1st Health Plan Arizona (Care1st) knew there was a need for these types of services in this underserved area. With this in mind, we sought to find a way to help not only our members, but the community as a whole.

Helping Arizonans Access Social and Human Services in Maricopa County

At Care1st Health Plan Arizona, we value giving back to the communities we serve. When we saw a growing need for human services in the underserved Southwest Valley of Maricopa County, we seized the opportunity to find a solution that would benefit not only our members in the area, but the community as a whole.

During the Great Recession, the City of Avondale was hit particularly hard. Approximately 20 percent of homes went into foreclosure and a fragmented human services infrastructure could not fully support its growing number of residents in need.
